Eddy Francois
Born in Cap Haitien, Eddy François is a Haitian Musician who grew up in Port Au Prince (Pas peu De Chose). Influenced by Rock Music and by group such as The Police, Bob Marley & Earth Wind & Fire, He began his musical journey with the group Les Compagnons De Saint Gerard a choir of the church. In 1988 He joined the group Superstar Music Machine as a bass player. The following year, Eddy Francois joined the group Boukman Eksperyans and became one of its founding member. With the Hit “Kè’m Pa Sote”, the band played a new rhythm, a blend of American Rock, African drumming and Haitian music that seduced the audience immediately. There was no doubt Eddy François has become a star.
With Eddy Francois as a singer, Boukman Eksperyans earned an international reputation as a multiple hit maker: “Wet Chen”, “Kem Pa Sote”, “Pwazon Rat”, “Se Kreol Nou Ye”, … etc. They have done the unimaginable, “Voodoo Music” on the airwaves, in lounges and clubs on the international stage. They came when Haitian society needed a new life after 30 years of dictatorship. Eddy & Boukan has long been one of the most played in radio and television stations with his original voice and inimitable Samba. His music was at the origin of the “Rasin” movement in Haiti and it has transcended the barriers of time and races. Nothing can resist him when he sings. ..
As Haitian Roots Music was making their way on the international stage, Eddy abandoned Boukman Eksperyans and formed with Jimmy Jean Felix, Richard Laguerre, Tonton Nwel, Evans Seney the group “Boukan Ginen” Creole translation for fire from Africa. Boukan Ginen also became an immediate success. Eddy Francois was named “Best Singer” in the Caribbean by Rolling Stone Magazine and Boukan was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1992. In 1994, Boukan Ginen became the third Haitian musical group to receive the ”Prix Découverte” from Radio France International (1994) with the album ”Jou a Rive”, ”Boukan Ginen”.
In 2004, fort of years of experience, Eddy Francois was ready for a solo adventure by launching his first solo album “Zinga”. “Zinga” has been Eddy Francois most complex work to date. It is a compilation of songs incurred, including “Mize Pep Saa” a blend of soul, blues on a background of carnival rhythm produced by Dadi Beaubrun his comrade from Boukman Eksperyans. In 2008, Eddy Francois released his second solo album Djohu produced in the US by Andy Barrow. The names of these two groups are a reference for “Mizik Rasin”
After all these years Eddy François has lost none of his touch, he still knows to vibrate his audience with his music. Now more than ever, He is determined to show the world all the variations of Haitian music and its African heritage.

Natif du Cap haitien, Eddy François grandit a Port Au prince (Bas Peu De Chose). Influence par le Rock de groupe des annees 80 comme The Police, Bob Marley & Erath, Wind & Fire), Eddy demarra sa carriere musicale comme guitariste et bassiste au sein des “Compagnons de Saint Gerard un groupe de chorale et de musique qui animait la messe dominicale a l’eglise Saint Gerard. Peu apres, son aventure musicale se poursuit avec le groupe Superstar Music Machine en 1988. L’année suivante il rejoint les rangs du groupe Boukman Eksperyans et avec le Hit : “Kè-m pa sote” le groupe joue un rythme nouveau, mélange de Rock américain, tambours africains et musique Haitienne qui séduit tout de suite le public; il ne faisait pas de doute qu’Eddy François deviendrait une star.
Il a pendant longtemps fait la une des radios et des stations de télévisions avec sa voix originale et inimitable de Samba. Sa musique a transcendé les barrières du temps et des races. Rien ne lui résiste quand il chante …
Avec Eddy François comme chanteur, Boukman Eksperyans se fait une renommée internationale grâce a plusieurs hit tels: “Kem Pa Sote”, “Pwazon Rat”, “Se Kreol Nou Ye”, etc … Ils ont réalisé l’inimaginable, Porter la musique “ Vaudou” sur les ondes , dans les salons et les clubs et sur la scène internationale … ils sont arrivés au moment ou la société Haitienne avait besoin d’un souffle nouveau après 30 ans de dictature.
Après quatre ans , Eddy abandonne Boukman Eksperyans et forme son propre groupe “ Boukan Ginen” traduction créole pour feu d’Afrique. Boukan Ginen connait un success immediate à l’instar de Boukman Eksperyans – le public a pendant un temps associé le nom de ces deux groupes comme référence a la musique racine.
Comme le Tabou Combo, le groupe Malavoi ou Kassav, la musique racine Haitienne a pu se frayer un chemin sur la scène internationale.
Fort des ces années d’expérience, Eddy François est prêt pour une aventure solo en lançant “Zinga” qui restera l’oeuvre la plus complexe d’ Eddy Francois á ce jour. C’est une compilation de chants engages, notamment “ Misè Pèp Saa” un mélange de soul, de blues sur un fond de rythme carnavalesque produit par Dadi Beaubrun son camarade depuis Boukman Eksperyans.
En 2008, c’est la sortie de Djohu avec la complicite de Soley Sound.
Aprés toutes ces années Eddy François n’a rien perdu de sa touche, il sait encore faire vibrer son assistance avec sa musique. Maintenant plus que jamais il est determiner a faire connaitre au monde toutes les variations de la musique haitienne.
